GIS

• Q. Do you products that I can use with my GIS package (eg. ArcView and MapInfo) ?
  A. Yes, Geoscience Australia has a range of digital topographic data that is designed for use in a GIS. You can also download many of these GIS datasets for free.

School Projects

• Q. Do you have maps or information that I can use in my school project ?
  A. Yes we have a selection of free map images of Australia that you can download from our web site.
  There are also lots of facts and figures on Australia's topography in the Fabulous Facts section of our website. Or you could build your own map on the Make your own Map of Australia section of our website.

Outdoor Activities / GPS

• Q. Do you have products that I can use for outdoor pursuits, such as Orienteering, Bushwalking, Fishing, or 4WD Driving ?
  A. Geoscience Australia produces topographic maps at a scale of 1:100 000 and 1:250 000. For maps at a larger scale you will need to contact our Map Retailers or the relevant State Mapping Agency. We also have products that provide digital versions of these maps that you can use on your computer - NATMAP Raster Mapsheets 2003 and NATMAP Raster Mapsheets 2003 product.

• Q. Do you have a product that I can use with my GPS receiver ?
  A. Yes, we have national topographic coverage at a scale of 1:250,000, See NATMAP Raster Mapsheets 2003 and NATMAP Raster Mapsheets 2003 product.

Finding Geographic Locations

• Q. Is there a search facility to locate place names or an area of interest?
  A. Yes - you can find your place name or area of interest on our website.

• Q. Do you have maps for all of Australia?
  A. Our geothematic mapping coverage is incomplete. State Geological Survey organisations may have the maps you require. Our Natmap 1:250,000 scale range of topographic maps offers a complete national coverage.

Types of Maps

• Q. Do you have maps showing Soil types?
  A. Soil maps may be downloaded online in GIS formats from the Bureau of Rural Sciences website.

• Q. Do you have maps showing Groundwater levels?
  A. Yes, we have groundwater maps for some areas of the eastern states, in particular there are a series of 1:250 000 maps for the Murray River Basin. Please contact our sales team.

• Q. Do you have maps of Bathymetry?
  A. Yes, we sell a bathymetry grid for Australian waters and this can also be downloaded from our website free of charge.
  

• Q. Do you have maps over Papua New Guinea?
  A. We have some topographic products over PNG. Please contact our sales team for further details.

• Q. Do you have overseas Aircharts?
  A. No - please contact Air Services Australia (phone 1300 301 120 in Australia).

• Q. Do you stock overseas Maps?
  A. Some Geoscience Australia retailers have access to a range of overseas maps and publications.

• Q. Do you sell cadastral data or maps?
  A. No, you will need to contact your relevant State/Territory Government Mapping agency.

• Q. Do you sell Electoral maps?
  A. No - please contact the Australian Electoral Commission.

• Q. Do you have any Hydrographic charts and information?
  A. No - please contact the Australian Hydrographic Office for this information.

• Q. Do you have maps containing statistical information published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics?
  A. No - please contact the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

State Mapping Authorities

Geoscience Australia has map coverage at scales of 1:250 000 , and 1:100 000. A limited coverage at 1:50 000 also exists, which predominantly covers parts of Northern Australia.

For maps at larger scales (eg. 1:25,000), users are advised to contact their respective state/territory mapping agencies, which are listed below;
