Tsunami Tools, Maps and Databases

Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre

Australia's earthquake monitors are used to detect events which might cause tsunami around Australia's coast and the south-west Pacific Ocean. If such an earthquake occurs, Geoscience Australia seismologists immediately notify the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and Emergency Management Australia which subsequently notify Australian emergency authorities.

ANUGA Hydrodynamic Modelling

In order to simulate the behaviour of water flow from natural hazards such as riverine flooding, storm surges or tsunami within the built environment, Geoscience Australia and the Australian National University have developed a software modelling tool called ANUGA for hydrodynamic simulations.

National Geophysical Data Center

The National Geophysical Data Center’s tsunami database provides information on tsunami source events and the locations at which effects from tsunamis were observed. It includes events from 2,000 B.C. to the present in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans as well as the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas.

Australian Disaster Information Network

The Australian Disaster Information Network (AusDIN) portal is a multi-agency initiative to establish a national knowledge and information network of people and systems to serve the emergency management community in the Australian region. The AusDIN portal aims to facilitate access to data and other information about all phases of emergency management as well as access to acquired knowledge about emergency management.
