The Landsat 7 Picture Mosaic of Australia was produced by the Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO). Mosaic is comprised of 369 individual Landsat satellite scenes acquired between July 1999 and September 2000.

This colour image is a low resolution version of the elevation of Australia. Areas in the image which are white/red represent regions of relatively high elevation and areas in blue/green are close to sea level.

This data is used to study the tectonic structure of Australia by mapping variations in the earth's magnetic field. The "hotter colours" (eg red) show areas of stronger magnetic field and the "cooler colours" (eg dark blue) show areas of weaker magnetic field.
