How to Use the Place Name Search
Use this search to find the location of places in Australia.
Enter the first few letters of a place name and click the Submit Query button. To refine a search, either select the Place Type or State from the lists. To clear the information, click Reset.
If a search does not produce the desired result, the search criteria should be modified. For example, key in either Mt Isa, Mount Isa, Isa Mt or Isa. Omitting Mount or Mt should still produce the correct result.
Some locality features have alternative names. Should a search display a second place name which does not match the initial query it is the result of the query engine searching for and displaying an alternative official name. For example if a query for Mount Acres is submitted, the alternative official name Helmshurst also is displayed. Note that the homestead names from Geoscience Australia sources are unofficial names.

This query uses information from the Gazetteer of Australia 2006 Release. To purchase this product, print and complete the Licence and order form [PDF 99KB] and send it to Geoscience Australia's Sales Centre.
