Energy

• Fossil Fuel Power Stations

  This GIS application details of Australian fossil fuel power stations (operational, and proposed) that are greater than 20MW capacity. It is hosted for the Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO).

• Renewable Energy Power Stations

  This GIS application details of Australian renewable energy power stations (operational, and proposed) that are greater than 3kW capacity. It is hosted for the Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO)

• Accredited Renewable Energy Power Stations

  This GIS application shows all accredited renewable energy power plants above 3kW capacity around Australia, it is hosted for the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER).

• OzCoasts and OzEstuaries

  The OzCoasts and OzEstuaries database assists the management of estuaries as a natural resource. Application includes conceptual models of the biophysical processes that operate in a wide range of estuaries and coastal waterways found around Australia.

Geochemistry

• OZCHEM National Whole Rock Geochemistry data

  Download current field geology and geochemistry data derived from Geoscience Australia's databases.

• Virtual centre for geofluids

  The virtual centre has been established by the Predictive Mineral Discovery Cooperative Research Centre (pmd*CRC) so that data relevant to geofluids may be stored in, and accessed from, a single point. It aims to provide an up-to-date reference centre for thermodynamic data and geofluids from various geological settings.

Geodesy

• National Geodetic Data Base (NGDB)

  The National Geodetic Data Base (NGDB) is a national archive of more than 25,000 geodetic survey marks of national interest in Australia and it's external territories (including Antarctica). The database contains positions in terms of a number of datums and coordinate systems of national interest and historical importance.

• Compute an N value

  Specify geographic coordinates, application will return the interpolated value from the AUSGEOID98 2' grid of geoid-ellipsoid separations. Values are of the GRS80 ellipsoid and suitable for use with GPS (GDA94/WGS84).

• Online GPS Processing Service (AUSPOS)

  Upload your RINEX file data, the application will return the solution by email.

• Australian Regional GPS Network (ARGN) Data

  Specify a time period, application will return the data files in Rinex format.

• Compute Sunrise, Sunset & Twilight Times

  Geoscience Australia's astronomic calculations work for any location around the world. Enter location, date and choose event (Sunrise/Sunset, Civil Twilight, Nautical twilight, Astronomical Twilight, Sun Transit Time, Zenith Distance). Application will return results as a HTML page.

• Compute Moonrise & Moonset Times

  Geoscience Australia's astronomic calculations work for any location around the world. Enter location, date and time-zone. Application will return results as a HTML page.

• Compute Sun and Moon Azimuth & Elevation

  Geoscience Australia's astronomic calculations work for any location around the world. Enter location, date, time-zone and event (sun/moon position). Application will return results as a HTML page.

• Distance Calculations

  "As the Cocky Flies" will calculate the distance between two places in Australia using the Gazetteer of Australia.

• Redfearn's formulae

  Use Redfearn's formulae to convert between latitude & longitude and UTM coordinates and vice versa.

• Vincenty's formulae

  Use Vincenty's formulae to calculate distance and bearing from latitude & longitude and vice versa.

Geophysics

• Geophysical Archive (GADDS)

  This system provides geophysical (magnetic, radiometric, gravity and digital elevation) data from Geoscience Australia's geophysical data archives to download.

• Airborne Surveys Database (Airborne Magnetics and Gamma Ray Spectrometrics)

  The database on airborne magnetics and gamma-ray spectrometrics contains digitised and reprocessed versions of analogue strip charts produced prior to 1968 (where quality warrants this).

• Australian National Seismic Imaging Resource (ANSIR)

  ANSIR is a joint venture of Geoscience Australia and the Research School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University. It is Australia's first Major National Research Facility dedicated to the Earth sciences.

  Search Geoscience Australia's Earthquake Database for recent and historic Australian and Global earthquakes and download earthquake information.

• National Geoscience GIS

  The National Geoscience GIS includes geohazard themes (e.g. landslides, earthquakes) as well as geology, geochemistry, geophysics, geohazards, petroleum and mineral resource themes. This data is available for free download and as an Open GIS Consortium [OGC] Web Mapping Service [WMS].

• Nuclear Explosions Database

  Geoscience Australia maintains a database of nuclear explosions with the location, time and size of explosions around the world since 1945.

• Landslides Database

  The LANDSLIDES database contains information on landslides that have been recorded in Australia since 1842. Data is used in risk assessments and to raise awareness about landslides and their impacts.

• Flood studies database online search

  Search the Database of Riverine Flood Hazard and Risk Studies for information on over a thousand riverine flood studies completed in Australia between 1980 and 2004.

• Australian Marine Spatial Information System (AMSIS)

  AMSIS contains more than 80 layers of Australian marine information which can be viewed and integrated with mineral locations data to create maps to meet specific requirements.

• MARine Sediments (MARS) Database

  The MARS database contains detailed information on seabed sediment characteristics for samples collected from Australia's marine jurisdiction, including the Australian Antarctic Territory.

• Ozcoast/Ozestuaries

  The Ozcoast/Ozestuaries database assists the management of estuaries as a natural resource. Application includes conceptual models of the biophysical processes that operate in a wide range of estuaries and coastal waterways found around Australia.   Search, view and download information about geological provinces of the Australian continent and surrounding offshore regions.

• Petroleum Information Management System (PIMS) GIS

  The Petroleum Information Management System (PIMS) is a database of seismic survey magnetic tapes and well log data lodged at the Geoscience Australia Data Repositories, Symonston ACT.

• National Petroleum Wells Database

  Contains information on organic geochemistry, biostratigraphy, reservoir facies for Australian wells.

• National Geoscience GIS

Satellite imagery

• Satellite Imagery (ACRES Digital Catalogue)

  The ACRES Digital Catalogue system is a database of archived satellite data acquisitions over Australia from the Landsat, ERS, RADARSAT and JERS earth observation satellites. Users are required to login.

• Pilbara Geophysical Image Processing Demonstration

  These data are part of the Northeast Pilbara GIS teaching package available from the Geoscience Australia Sales Center

• Mount Warning, Murwillumbah Satellite Image Processor

  Online image processing system where you can do simple RGB images of different band of Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) satellite data for the Murwillumbah area in New South Wales.

• East Coast Estuaries, Rapid Assessment Demonstration

  Output for the Urban and Coastal Impacts Program, to demonstrate the ability to provide rapid assessment of estuarine conditions through online image processing.

Topography

• MapConnect Online GIS

  This website is designed to introduce the public to our new Geodata 3 Topo 250k National Mapping data. Using this system, you can view, interrogate, download both area extract and tile data though the download system.

• 1:1 Million Topographic Online GIS (Global Map)

  This dataset is the Australian contribution to the International Steering Committee for Global Mapping (ISCGM) project to map the world at 1:1 Million scale.

• Place Name Search

  This application uses information from the Gazetteer of Australia 2004

Reference databases

• Stratigraphic Units Database

  Geoscience Australia in its capacity as the national geological survey, maintains a register of these names in the Stratigraphic Units Database on behalf of the Geological Society of Australia.

• GEODX Bibliography

  GEODX is the bibliographic database behind the Stratigraphic Units Database.

• Library Catalogue

  This database of Geoscience Australia Library's online catalogue records contains all of our monograph and journal collections and most of the map collection.

• ANZLIC Metadata

  Information about all of Geoscience Australia's spatial metadata that conform to the ANZLIC metadata guidelines and includes spatial datasets - such as maps, atlases, GIS coverages, images, databases and other digital datasets.

• Lookup Tables

  Lookup tables are used by Geoscience Australia's Oracle databases to classify and validate entries in many of the main database tables. This interface is currently unavailable and is undergoing review.

  GeoCat is Geoscience Australia's Product Catalogue. Use this system to determine the products you are interested in for purchase/download. A text only version is also available.
